I was on vacation for a week, and the few times I turned on the television I saw the "breaking news"John Edwards' affair. Here's why this barely makes my news:
A) His wife knew about the affair and they were taking steps to deal with the whole thing, so why should anyone else be upset?
B) Despite his smile and full head of hair, he's human like the rest of us. I don't condone adultery, but I do condone forgiveness.
c) Even if (A) isn't true, it's really none of our business.
Why is our culture so obsessed with infidelity? Is it a tribute to the old adage "Misery loves company," or is it something else? I'm not going to argue any man/woman points, because truthfully monogamy can be difficult for both genders, but it has always been intriguing to me why cheating makes so many waves. No one cares if a man murders, rapes, or pees on random women, but if he kisses or goes to the movies with a woman that isn't his wife, it makes international news. Not judging, just observing and commenting.
